A while ago Thom Kerr, Rebekah Clark and I shot Chadwick model Nicole Harrison for a beauty shoot inspired by Frida Kahlo. Sometimes in the fashion world shoots never see the light of day (if you've seen The September Issue, you'll understand why), it's just the way it is but that's where SV comes in. I just couldn't let this one go unseen so I bring you an exclusive look to reveal the wonder that is Perth model Nicole Harrison.

As I said in my last post she is one of my favourite models and a force to be reckoned with at only 16. I can see big things happening for this model in the near future.

Enjoy our fantasy land!

The Pinnacles, WA. Vogue Brazil Editorial

IMG_9537.JPG

It has been a long time between drinks for SV but I am finally back to serve you with the finest crystal to quench any fashion followers thirst, a taste of what it's like to be behind-the-scenes of a shoot for Vogue Magazine.

A few months ago I was lucky enough to be asked to join the team of Vogue Brazil for an editorial story that was being shot in the Pinnacles of WA. Being no stranger to this desert location and in awe at the offer of this amazing opportunity, I jumped at the chance and welcomed the invitation with arms wide open. I had no idea of what to expect or whether I'd even get to be involved enough to have any creative say but to my utter delight the team encouraged my input and to this day the experience stands as my greatest (contributing) styling triumph in my career thus far.

IMG_9555.JPG

The team consisted of:

Photographer: Gui Paganini

Fashion Director: Giovanni Frasson

Producer: Roberta Germano

Make-up Artist: Max Weber

Model: Laura Gorun from Prascilla's

Assistant Photographer: Jhonatan Chicaroni

Assistant Stylist: Vinicius Ienzura

Assistant Stylist: Me

Red Bull Representative: Ana Pessoa

Our kind Bus Driver from Swan Gold Tours.

We all stayed 3 nights in Cervantes, 17km from The Pinnacles.

The best thing about shooting for Vogue = being able to ruin the shoes. Hearing the words "Vogue will pay" was the most satisfying experience for me as a stylist.

Out of Focus

IMG_9382.JPGBy
jaimeleefont1 - Copy.gifSince Jaime Lee graduated in 2008 from the WA School of Art, Design and Media with an Advanced Diploma in Fashion & Textile Design, I have been working with the designer to help establish her brand.

Last week we shot the campaign for her new full range Spring/Summer 2010/11 collection - 'Out of Focus' - with fabulous fashion photographer, Thom Kerr.

Like myself, Thom is all about supporting talented, forward thinking young designers to help establish themselves within the often harsh and mostly volatile fashion industry. He graciously made the trip from over east to Perth and helped create what I now consider to be the most exciting, awe-inspiring work I have been involved in to date.

Jaime Lee's collection highlights her out-of-this-world aesthetic. Her explosively colourful digitally printed artwork on fabric has been worked to create garments that are
wearable art pieces.

IMG_9343.JPGIMG_9349.JPGThe campaign shoot will be released nationally through various publications, starting in Perth and it is a chance for the public to experience a moment inside the heads of two creative geniuses from Australia.

The day was filmed by Laure Bernard and Gerry LaFerla for BrainChild Productions and we were all interviewed for a piece that will be revealed on screen in months to come.
It was a thoroughly inspiring experience and of course Style Voyeur was there to capture all of the action.

SV presents a behind-the-scenes look at Jaime Lee - Spring/Summer 2010/11 collection.

IMG_9314.JPGThe bathers are to kill for.
Totally on trend for the scuba/surf/underwater inspired high fashion daywear look getting hot for SS 2010/11.
I am obsessed. Think rashies as tops, pop coloured wetsuit shorts or pants worn on the street with stacked heels, sleek accessories and now Jaime Lee's digital prints worn to maximum effect!

This is my favourite piece in the collection- The Big Bird Jacket - worn by the ever so beautiful, Sarah C.
We couldn't have chosen a more perfect model for this campaign!

Look out for stockists of Jaime Lee to be advised soon.

Bare

Edith Cowan University Contemporary Fashion Graduation Exhibition

IMG_0367.JPGThe bow (above) was designed by ECU fash grad Jessica Carlucci.

The graduating contemporary fashion students from ECU put on a thought-out and well executed exhibition and runway show, entitled Bare, on Saturday night.

Style Voyeur was there to capture what was one of the most chilled out backstage areas I have ever seen. 3 years lead-up and preparation for this event made the whole evening run smoothly and (seemingly) effortlessly. The relaxed behind-the-scenes vibe (which carried through to the catwalk) lent itself to the mood of the surrounds and translated the semi-bohemian 60's atmosphere exceptionally well.

IMG_0344.JPGToo cool for school.

IMG_0382.JPG
IMG_0kjgtkh;askg405.jpgI thought I would take this opportunity to say I despise the term 'cool kids.' It implies a sense of negativity towards expression and individuality.
Sure superficiality is the lowest form of being but the people who bandy this term about should first consider that sometimes style is substance. It's one of the few ways you can say something without words and isn't being cool all about not giving a shit what anyone else is doing? Yeah we're into fashion, what the F is it to you? The way I see it is you can hardly stand up on your high horse wearing olive green crocs and a ratty old Telstra sports cap now can you?

IMG_0399.JPGThis boy looks to me like a human blank canvas. I could imagine him in any style. If he dyed his hair lighter and donned a bit of worn leather he could even channel River Pheonix.

IMG_0554.JPGDesigner Esther Lane was my favourite of the evening. Her designs most closely match my aesthetic. Her print work was inspired by the explorer/author Edward Packard who I discovered (upon researching) was responsible for the Choose Your Own Adventure children's series. The scar on the model's leg is perfect.

Chadwick Models

Perth's Up-and-Coming Modelling Sensations

NICcanvas.jpg(above) suit by Carly Hunter.

Chadwick Models have some serious talent on their books.
Recently Thom Kerr (photographer), Rebekah Clark (beauty) and I shot many of Chadwick Models' new talent. All of the girls presented to us were stunning, professional and had fantastic personalities. It was very impressive and a joy working with them all.

Two of the girls, including Nichole H and Beth have been with Chadwick for a brief time whereas models including Shelby, Jessi and Paige were discovered at
Perth Fashion Festival
Chadwick Model Search.

Chadwick Models signed a whopping 24 new faces discovered at the event, proving the standard of models in Perth is so high it is always going to be hard to choose just one winner at any given time.

While all of these girls have huge potential, Nicole H (pictured above and below) is a rare beauty and Thom was so enamoured by the Adriana Lima look-a-like we booked her for a beauty shoot that will appear in a major Australian publication early next year.

Watch this space!

Earlier this year I showed a behind-the-scenes look at the Pinnacles shoot I collaborated on with Thom Kerr and Rebekah Clark. We featured Ruby Mariani's 2008 Curtin University Graduating Collection for Issue 10 of Black Magazine, published internationally.

Some images are still to appear in the yet-to-be-released Australian fashion magazine, The Collective, however I have finally been given the all clear and am now able to show the rest of the world our finished product.

This girl has next-big-thing status written all over her, I love her work! She is an absolute delight to be around (and a devoted fan of SV!)

Daniella Caputi 2.JPG
IMG_3732.JPGWhen I arrived backstage before the show so many of the models were engrossed in their books. It seems pathetic to highlight this fact, as why wouldn't they be but almost every girl sitting down was reading. Take that critics!

Emma Brown.JPGDetail shot of Emma Brown's design.
Possibly inspired by Versace's Spring/Summer 09 heart shaped open zip detail, Brown's take on this look is original and well played. Lights which were embedded in the fabric added a creative edge and gave it the stand-out element necessary for making an impression on the catwalk!
I will be keeping my eye on her.
The digital prints used by the designer were also impressive.

The pants are cool. I can see myself using these in a shoot some time in the near future.

IMG_3685.JPG(Above) Eve Goh's collection 'Windows'

This year Central TAFE's graduating class presented predominantly what was a dark and eery showing of garments. The mood was offset by the resulting stand out collections from Chloe Jones, Natalie Fardella and another favourite, Eve Goh's 'Windows.'

To use a tired but fitting cliche`, it appeared as though a number of TAFE students had been influenced by the recently gloomy economic times, with a somewhat melancholic air to the work being shown. This did not detract from the fact that as always a spectacular presentation was offered. It did, however, bring a more theatrical mood to the night where anything goes creatively.

The talent displayed on the night was indicative of a rich up-and-coming creative culture present in Perth fashion.

Thanks to Central TAFE and the hard working student designers in the graduating class of 2009 it is clear that this flair is sure to see us entertained for many decades to come!
