I have been living in Paris for the past 6 years.

First fashion memory: I was about 7 or 8 and I can still remember very well. I was sat on a sofa with my sister watching a TV show. One of the guests was a new fashion designer considered as someone very provocative in the late 80's. It was Jean-Paul Gaultier. He was speaking a lot, introducing Nana his heavily made up teddy bear to the host. Jean-Paul Gaultier was wearing a pink pleated skirt. Rather than a man spoiling his fun, I'd seen Gaultier as someone very funny. I'd never seen someone like him before.

What do you do: Basically I draw illustrations for magazines.

How long have you been a fashion illustrator: For the past 6 years now.

(Above) Givenchy Fall 2008 with Australian model Abbey Lee Kershaw leading the way.

How did you get started in the fashion industry and why: I was working for Agnes B as motifs creator for a line of tee-shirts inspired by famous actors. One day Agnes came to me to check my work and she said something like "I like this, I like that. You should be a fashion illustrator for magazines. Make a call to this friend..." She was right. It was obvious. So I spent a week all nights long to meet her friend with something to show..I've never felt really concerned by clothes or fashion items BUT I'd always been very very interested by the pictures, the people and the imagination that is generated by fashion.

Name some of the publications you work for: I work for several magazines and product packages like Agenda, WAD, French Glamour, NYLON, European Elle, Victory, Vanidad, Fake, Neo2 Magazine, Madame Figaro, Dazed and Confused, POP, IBM, Virgin, Barneys and Custo Barcelona.

Nicolas credits this image he took as "Queen of the bees."

You have pictures with the worlds top models and designers backstage at the Paris shows. How is it that you have come so close to this world by being an illustrator/artist: I go to several shows during each Parisian fashion week thanks to some magazines I work for. During the shows the most important thing to understand is the inspirations of the next season. What you want, what you don't want anymore. It is sometimes very inspiring, sometimes decisive. It's not only about pretty faces and champagne, it's above all about work.

Who is the most fun person to hang out with backstage at the shows: Hmmmm...someone you know very well.

  Someone confiding in Karl (above)

Who is your favourite designer: I love Alaia. His clothes are made for seduction and perfectly built. I like Alber Elbaz for Lanvin and Haider Ackermann for his own line. They know how to introduce fragility and emotion to a dress. I love Dries Van Noten for his culturally diverse style. His collections are always very inspired and never turning around one silhouette or fashion item. I think he's more interested in a continuity. He has always worked at not being today's flavour only.

(Above) @ Lanvin

(Below) another shot taken by Tavitian. The last look on the runway at Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 before his tragic death.

Favourite Model: I like this question, maybe it proves that my love for models is visual through my work. It can seem a bit cliche' but I love Kate Moss. I was 13 when I saw her face for the first time and I can still remember. Claudia Schiffer, Elle McPherson and all these boy bands defined the idea a lot of people had of the human perfection in the 90's. An idea based on the perfect faces and super bodies with big tits and huge biceps. This picture of Kate Moss came immediately to me as a new proposal. She was like an Egon Schiele drawing. First time I saw her in real life it was like watching somebody out of my adolescence.

My interest for fashion pictures has grown through the 'Top Models' era of the 90's. I was fascinated by these girls. Now models are different but very inspiring. Their beauty is more individual which is the reason, I think, their careers are shorter.

I love Mariaclara Boscono, she's very intense, a flood of thoughts and enthusiasm. I also love Sasha Pivovarova and Australian Abbey Lee Kershaw, they are very inspiring.

(One of my favourite models) Lara Stone backstage

Who do you admire for their style: To me style is not necessarily about well made clothes, cut out in luxurious materials, quite the reverse. I think someone styled well is a woman or man who's able to express their personality, their own tastes with good sense of proportions, colours, details and grey matters.

Style is the ability to express (consciously or not) something abstract, deeply in harmony with your mind and what's part of a current climate.

Some people I admire for their style include: My grand-mother and grand-father, Christopher Walken, Anita Pallenberg, Greta Garbo, Tilda Swinton, Laus Kinski, Nina Simone, Steve McQueen, Muiccia Prada, Anna Magnani, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Patti Smith, Lauren Hutton, Leonor Scherrer, Anthony Hegarty, Lee Radziwill, Louise Nevelson, Louise Bourgeois, Helena Christensen, Kate Moss, Simone de Beauvior, Nancy Cunard, Emmanuelle Alt, David Hockney, Franca and Carla Sozzani, Nan Kempner, Melanie Ward, Marina Abramovic, Venetia Scott, Eileen Gray, Anastasa Barbieri...

What is on the horizon for you in your career: I'm working hard on illustrations for a line of cosmetics packages developed by the department store Barneys, in NYC. I'm inspired by the mid 50's and je ne sais quoi of 2011. Fingers Crossed!

Being no stranger to this desert location and in awe at the offer of this amazing opportunity, I jumped at the chance and welcomed the invitation with arms wide open. I had no idea of what to expect or whether I'd even get to be involved enough to have any creative say but to my utter delight the team encouraged my input and to this day the experience stands as my greatest (contributing) styling triumph in my career thus far.

He graciously made the trip from over east to Perth and helped create what I now consider to be the most exciting, awe-inspiring work I have been involved in to date.

Jaime Lee's collection highlights her out-of-this-world aesthetic. Her explosively colourful digitally printed artwork on fabric has been worked to create garments that are
wearable art pieces.

The campaign shoot will be released nationally through various publications, starting in Perth and it is a chance for the public to experience a moment inside the heads of two creative geniuses from Australia.

The day was filmed by Laure Bernard and Gerry LaFerla for BrainChild Productions and we were all interviewed for a piece that will be revealed on screen in months to come.
It was a thoroughly inspiring experience and of course Style Voyeur was there to capture all of the action.

SV presents a behind-the-scenes look at Jaime Lee - Spring/Summer 2010/11 collection.

Our stunning campaign model Sarah C from Scene waiting for the final touches from make-up artist extraordinaire, Rebekah Clark.

The bathers are to kill for.
Totally on trend for the scuba/surf/underwater inspired high fashion daywear look getting hot for SS 2010/11.
I am obsessed.
Where It All Began

The truth is before I started Style Voyeur, I hated Perth!
In the beginning, starting a positive, Perth based blog, I actually had to pretend I loved this humble town.
Don't feel deceived, this journey has changed my life!

I'd travelled a fair bit growing up having a German mother, so as soon as I finished school I literally got on a plane, alone at 17, out as fast as I could. I travelled around Europe for over a year, working at some of the finest hotels, seeing the world and living by my own rules. I had a working visa, had created a base primarily in the stunning naval town of Dartmouth in England where family friends resided as artists but as soon as my visa ran out I had to come 'home'. Although my mother is German and I am actually a distant relative of the current Pope - Benedict XVI - hilarious right!? Mother dearest wasn't in fact a citizen when I was born and surprisingly (not) Germany has the strictest rules with citizenship. My father is as Aussie as they come and on his side I am 8th Generation Australian, stemming back to Mr Brisbane so I had no other choice but to return to P-town.

[Above: Artwork by Scott Armstrong (VIP section) for Perth Fashion Festival venue '09.]

I left all my friends behind, had nothing in common with anyone I knew before I left (bar my best friend who is from NZ and travelled her whole life) and I felt as though I didn't belong anywhere on this planet. It's hard to explain why it impacted me so but I felt as though my heart was ripped from me and until you know what it's like to feel as though you belong nowhere, I can tell you it is like nothing else - the worst. It took years to accept that this is where I live. I went to University, got a great job Art Directing at one of Perth's biggest design studios, but all the while. inside I felt empty. Alien to my life.

It wasn't until July of 2008 when Perth Fashion Festival Event Manager, Lauren Elliott spotted my Myspace that I was rescued.
Immediately my life changed for the better.

At the time my Myspace was my safe heaven. My outlet, filled with inspiration, prospect and colour. I had people from all over the world, most notably, Wendy James (former front lady of Transvision Vamp, residing in New York) tell me they found inspiration in my pictures and what I was all about. I was doing a similar thing to what Style Voyeur started out as - taking pictures of people and things that inspired me, discussing clothes and ideas with designers and writers (Brent Billman, writer for V Magazine became a friend) and constantly was obsessing over fashion imagery in general. Lauren Elliott decided I was the girl to create the Official Blog of Perth Fashion Festival and so I was appointed.

Back then I didn't really even know what a blog was or how to create one. I totally made it up - I did what felt natural and with the help of PFF's designer from Entropic Design, Style Voyeur was born.
It has since taken on a world of its own.

I would go out onto the streets and take photographs of stylish people spotted in the most unexpected places. I'd attend fashion events in the hope to find someone or something SV-worthy. Instead of coming home from a night out depressed with tears in my eyes at our lacklustre culture and Australian ignorance, I would sit on my front patio smoking cigarettes looking excitedly at the images I'd captured of Perth's subculture. I began to realise that you don't have to have travelled the earth to know that Perth has some of the most remarkable sights, most talented creatives and a collection of subcultures that rival some of the biggest cities in the world today.

[Artwork by Jaime Lee]

I would spend hours staying up late looking at and writing about those well dressed individuals, the individual nature of our little sub cultures, the people here who make their own reality - stylishly - while inhabiting the most isolated city in the world. Everything in my life had been preparing me for this opportunity, it made so much sense. I was complete.

For all those who love fashion and style as much as I do, Perth Fashion Festival means hope. I had been into PFF's campaigns and closely watched everything released by the festival from a young age, but it wasn't until I was involved that I felt proud to be from Perth. Ever since Perth Fashion Festival was founded by Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan, Perth's cultural diversity and creative flair for fashion has been enhanced. Every year I am delighted to be a part of such a fantastic platform for emerging and established WA creatives.

For 2010 Perth Fashion Festival will take place on September 9th - 15th and the team are already steadily planning another year of out of the box events.
There are so many questions to be asked. Who will be the photographer for the 2010 campaign? Who will fill the shoes of the gorgeous Emily Cattermole this year as the FACE of 2010?

Will the festival be held at the old Gasworks building again? It was such an amazing venue and I really hope so. I arranged the graffiti artwork with the help of artist Hurben who told me I was the inspiration for his piece [above]. It has to be the coolest and most humbling thing someone has ever done for me. It was a massive effort to get the walls painted by graffiti artists and we spent hours cutting through red tape with City Of Perth counsellors to make it happen.

L'Oreal Professionnel will direct the hair looks again this year with the team from Head Studio. Mark and Marie Cain from Head Studio are some of the coolest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and I'm looking forward to hanging out with them all again behind the scenes this year.

[Model Emily Cattermole with L'Oreal Professionnel Hair Director, Mark Thompson.]

I cannot wait to hear all the other announcements to be revealed by the fabulous Perth Fashion Festival team in months to come!

[Lord Mayor and PFF Ambassador Lisa Scaffidi with 2009 Campaign Photographer Christian Blanchard.]

Youth Ambassador and Top Model Tom Bull.

Perth model Jessi Moloney backstage at PFF '09.
