Yallingup

Peacock@Purist j(email).jpgTwo male peacocks came to visit us at home today.
I have never seen such an incredible creature in the flesh in all my life.

IMG_6130.JPGNew Yorker Jared caught my eye for his un-canny resemblance to Leonardo DiCaprio. I just love his look thus the multiple images.

IMG_6132.JPG
Jared wears custom made Selima glasses originally for Jack Spade New York, Uniqlo jeans and a Freeman's Sporting Club shirt from his local Manhattan store.

IMG_6143.JPGLocal Yalls pals.
(L-R) Kylie wears all vintage and Leoni & Vonk necklace available at Yallingup Galleries. Gemma wears Rag and Bone top, Cheap Monday jeans and Chloe sunglasses from Santa. Lokulea wears ST John Sport dress and Nine West ankle boots.

IMG_6152.JPGGemma is originally from Yallingup and now lives in New York City (she is married to Jared - above). Her friends told me she has hit the big time working as a model in the city and is signed to Viviens in Perth and Sydney and Trump in NYC. W.A. girls kick it!

In my opinion it is next to never that you see beachwear such as Boardies and a T rocked well but I think Tim, wearing Billabong, has done a pretty good job of proving that myth to be, well, just that.

IMG_6139.JPGIt has pretty much every great place on the planet on it so it has to be cool!
It reminds me a bit of the old Louis Vuitton graffiti bags back when they were cool (the ones before Marc Jacobs and Richard Prince's collaboration).

Back to Perth tomorrow but I have to say I have been blown away by the inspiration I have found in a place that is pretty much geographically at the end of the earth.

Purist Gallery - Yallingup, W.A.

IMG_5791.JPGAs you may know from SV's Guide to Life post (see archives) my dad and step-mum, Max and Penny, own Purist Gallery in the Margaret River wine region of W.A.

At Purist Max displays his fine art objects and jewellery and Penny her abstract paintings, screen prints and etchings. Purist gifts are also on display and available for purchase.

Purist was designed by my father who is an award winning jeweller with a background in architecture and was built six and a half years ago. Over this time I have been greatly influenced by my parent's design aesthetics and have been lucky enough to be able to give my opinion on various elements of the overall look and feel of the gallery.

Here are some images I have taken during my stay down south over the Christmas break.

For more information visit www.puristgallery.com

Purist Gallery is located in Blue Orchid Court via Lagoon Drive, Yallingup W.A.
Opening hours are every weekend and public holidays 10 - 5 and everyday during December and January 10 - 5.
Ph: (08) 9755 2582

Penny's work can also be found in many collections around the world including The Art Gallery of W.A., The Kerry Stokes Collection, Sir Charles Gardener Hospital, Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River, Clairault Winery, Alexander Library of W.A. and Artbank.

IMG_5713.JPGThere is an espresso bar where you can enjoy morning and afternoon tea in the bush setting.

Just between you and me having this much tea at your disposal makes for some obsessive tea making in the home vicinity (excluding me - I am not a huge tea fan). Yesterday my dad even brought me a cup when I kindly refused one - just in-case I changed my mind. I would say there are roughly 12 tea times per day, minimum :)

T2 has always been the tea of choice for Purist and my personal favourite when I do feel like one is Gorgeous Geisha. It is strawberry and cream flavoured green tea - yum!

IMG_5685.JPGI have always been obsessed with china and glass-wear ever since I was little. It is quite a strange obsession for a child to have but every time my mother and I went somewhere and I was allowed something I would always choose a glass or dish of some sort. I love the way Penny has displayed these cups and saucers.

The current Purist T-shirt has a design on the front comprising drawings from Penny and Max's sketch books and comes packaged in pizza boxes.

An SV Christmas Affair

Yallingup, W.A. - Christmas Day

For me Christmas has always been about nature, art and bizarre Christmas Trees.

IMG_5889.JPG
There is not one year that has gone by where I have not had a bizarre Christmas Tree to open gifts from under. Having a mother that is an art teacher, a father who is an architect/jewellery designer/sculptor and step-mother who is an artist it was never going to be any other way. This year is no exception, the one above is a modification of a sculpture my father did for a project decorated by my step-mother.

IMG_5640.JPG
The following five images were taken on Christmas eve and they set the scene for the surroundings I am in over the Christmas break. Some were bought and some have been designed and made by my dad.

IMG_5662.JPG
I love it how the tree stump looks like the arm of this sculpture's body.

IMG_5906.JPG
It is always my job to set the table and I know it sounds boring but it is one of my favourite activities of the day.

A Kangaroo and Joey came to visit us and say Happy Christmas, how Aussie is that!

IMG_5893.JPG
Polly gets a wash before the guests arrive. My step mother uses old fashioned 'Marthas Wool Wash' on her as Poodles have little lambswool overcoats.

IMG_5918.JPG
Edible wild Hibiscus flowers dropped into a glass of Champagne make your bubbly that little bit more special (or as I prefer to say it makes it an SV drink!). This stylish beverage idea can be enjoyed at any celebration and looks even cuter with a drop of the pink Hibiscus syrup added. You should be able to buy it from any good gourmet store.

The highlight of the evening - My step-mother's amazing Trifle.
Two huge pavlovas, 7 punnets of strawberries, 8 kiwi-fruit, a litre of custard, a litre of whipped cream, 4 cans of tinned fruit, 6 packets of mini swiss cake rolls and voila!

After dinner and dessert whilst the boys played frisbee in the dark I got a shot of my cousin Madeleine. She is a pretty chic little girl. I have always loved a bolero and this one in silver is very cute. Her flats remind me of some done by Gucci a few years ago.
