Earlier this year I showed a behind-the-scenes look at the Pinnacles shoot I collaborated on with Thom Kerr and Rebekah Clark. We featured Ruby Mariani's 2008 Curtin University Graduating Collection for Issue 10 of Black Magazine, published internationally.

Some images are still to appear in the yet-to-be-released Australian fashion magazine, The Collective, however I have finally been given the all clear and am now able to show the rest of the world our finished product.

Beach City!

|
Photographer Christian Blanchard and I recently collaborated on an eclectic vintage fashion story at City Beach featuring up and coming Scene model Amelia Brown. I used some great un-established designer labels and vintage, mixed with high end pieces straight off the international runways. Hair and Make-up by Ashley Brockman.

Amelia wears turban and silver mesh knit from Winifred & Bance. Tsumori Chisato star fish broach, Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses, Ann Valerie Hash necklace and Vivienne Westwood tote all from Dilettante. Strawberry ring and bangles stylist's own. Dress (worn under knit) designed by Elli Christou from label TORA.

Behind-the-scenes.

I have always hated the mis-match look but for some reason lately I have been inspired to create my own unusual combinations. This is my first attempt at mixing and mis-matching and I am happy the look worked in reality as it did in my mind in theory.

Necklace, bamboo bangles and shoes stylist's own, one piece swim suit by Lady Lascivious available at Red Stripe Clothing, Tsumori Chisato skirt, headband and material bracelet from Dilettante. Bo Ra flower broach cookbookofcreations.blogspot.com

The best assistants in Perth, chilling on set at City Beach kiost.
Richard Jeffersion (R) - photographer's assistant and Jaxon Reibel (L) Stylist's assistant. I met Jaxon through a friend only a few weeks ago and I'm so glad I did. He is a budding designer and has done some styling short courses at Central Saint Martins as he just returned from living in London for the past 2 years. He isn't afraid to voice his own opinion and is not daunted by $3,000 blazers - always a good thing :-)

Richard is a serious photographer in his own right and is so skilled at his craft he is an asset to everyone he works with. Richard also regularly assists Getty Images Award winning and Perth Fashion Festival Official catwalk photographer Stefan Gossati.

Sunset and almost time to go home after 12 hours solid shooting.
I'll post some of the final images when I get them.

Christian is currently in New York. He is big news at the moment and now one of the top photographers in Australia. He just shot the Perth Fashion Festival 2009 Campaign with festival face Emily Cattermole and recently photographed the past two Mimco campaigns - the latest to be released soon.

Dilettante Presentation

|

New Season Presentation - April

Dilettante is one of the most important boutiques in Australia.

When Damien Woolnough, Editor of Vogue Australia's website came to visit last year as part of Perth Fashion Festival, we had a conversation about beautiful fashion boutiques. Both of us agreed that Dilettante is one of the best fashion destinations Australia has on offer.

The garments and accessories available in-store are sought after world-wide and the space itself -  which houses pieces direct from the international designer shows, rivalling the likes of Sydney's, The Corner Shop, Paris', Collette, London's, Browns and New York's, Zao - is a mecca of creative inspiration and visual splendour.

The best part of it all is that since Dilettante opened its doors back in 2007, Perth fashion people have had access to some of the world's best international designer wares. Designs by fashion mavericks such as Vivienne Westwood, A.F. Vandervorst, Christopher Kane for Swarovski, Gareth Pugh, Undercover, Preen and Costume National are all available in Perth through Dilettante. A reality that only a few years ago would have seemed like a far off dream.

A boy on the street who was reluctant to let me take his photograph but it was most necessary to show that boys like this do exist in Perth. There ARE fashion forward boys and girls in this town despite what some ill-educated people think and really that is what SV is all about - showing them to the world.

I too was wearing cobalt blue tights on the night with my matching blue Jessie Hill booties so I was delighted to see a boy who had the same look in mind. Unisex is the new androgyny. I also love the shirt with adornment. It is apparently the new thing in London for boys to wear jewels over their shirts and adornment is everywhere at the moment.

Fashion is daring to be different.

The Collaboration - Pinnacles Shoot

|

IMG_6672.JPG
You may have wondered where SV has been lately?
Well I have been up north, shooting a high end W.A. fashion story, of course!

Amazingly I managed to convince world renowned photographer Thomas Kerr www.thomkerr.com and fashion make-up darling Rebekah Clark to shoot with me in The Pinnacles, W.A.

I sent Thom, who currently resides in New Zealand, my proposal to do a high-end W.A fashion shoot for editorial - to make some beautiful art and highlight some of the amazing talent we have here in W.A. To use items from Ruby Mariani's 'Seduisant et Repousant' collection and show the rest of the world my vision of Western Australia being a respected fashion capital. And to my utter surprise, Thom agreed!!!!

After that W.A. make-up artist Rebekah Clark came on board. Rebekah's work is also renowned internationally and Australia wide, having worked on campaigns for Wheels and Dollbaby, Illonaire and been responsible for making-up none other than 'The Body'. We then found our model in Sarah Pauley from Viviens - she was fantastic and perfect due to her otherworldy look and statuesque figure.

Thanks to Ruby Mariani's awe inspiring collection and her constant inspiration, I styled each look and borrowed pieces from Dilettante, Jewellery designer Max Ball at Purist Gallery, Joynt Venture and Risque Adult Shop (stipper heels that is) and before I knew it Thom had flown over from N.Z.and we were all on a road trip up north.

I will be sure to let you know when the editorial is printed. It is tipped to be exposed in a very high-end, brand-new, Australia-wide magazine later this year - but you will no doubt see them before then also - will keep you posted (literally ;-)

Take a sneak peak here at the behind-the-scenes action.

Thom and Sarah Inside Regans Ford Windmill Roadhouse.
It was so cool there. If you ever manage to get up this way you should definitely make a stop. It is just before a town called Cataby and is off Brand Hwy.
It has some hilarious 1950's country petrol station memorabilia. The lady who owns it is hilarious also, lovin' it taking the piss out of city people - but in an affectionate way.

There was such suspense driving to The Pinnacles. You wait and wait to arrive and then all of a sudden you drive straight into the yellow sand and the rock formations are all around you - AMAZING! Upon entry we were greeted by a wild family of Emus.

Sitting in the air-conditioning was much more appropriate.

I love Rebekah's raw use of make-up. She enhances the natural elements of the model's features allowing them to shine through whilst giving it a tough, yet natural appearance. It was exactly what we were going for with this shoot as we were all exploring the juxtaposition of dark and light, tough and soft, Seduisant et Repousnat (allure and respulsion).
Epic yet beautiful!

Ahh what we do for high fashion!

Love the thongs.
This shot was taken before I put the shoes on. Standing in 5 inch heels on sand is not easy.
