Melbourne Cup Tuesday - 4/11/08

It didn't stop hearts from breaking, love making, bed bugs stinging, fascinators falling, headaches ceasing, minds blowing, blisters growing or the champagne from flowing.
More thankfully it certainly did not stop the fashion show featuring new collections from Dilettante and Zekka taking place at 1907 on Queens Street in the city.
August wears Ann Demeulemeester.
Apparently Melbourne Cup is the 'Race that stops the nation'. I used to believe this to be the case until I become freelance and then realised that the truth is it doesn't actually, really, stop very much at all.

Wow I loved the photos! Some awesome looking clothes there, can't believe the shoot was on Melb cup day.
Any idea where I can find the Tsumori Chisato dress?? It is too beautiful!!
The one thing the Melb cup did do was congregate all the trashy ppl into one place so they could not annoy other ppl.
I really struggle with mens fashion sometimes and i think this is one of those times. Because as much as i love the whole Euro/Swiss/Dutch softer layered fabrics with emphasis primarily on flow rather than line forms. I find the strong lines in Brit fashion to be a lot more visually appealing.
So anyway i though i would have a look at Ann's latest collection and i have to say the catwalk stuff on the site works a lot better for me. The layered clothes and lines work really well and the detailing is pretty fab. With some serious hints at French Noir and Goth.
Hints at urban camo print is amusing and almost heading toward batik.
I like that the softer lapels on the coat August is wearing. But could not see if it is edged black and does if it had a 3/4 length cut? Or has the cuff been rolled back to show the lining. Unfortunately the flash flattened the detail on the pants.
The yellow puff dress just hurts me with wrong. It is like pickachu had been flayed.
Dom wearing the Raf top get my attention. It brings to my mind how, how fibers are worsted. And if you could imagine then that they are taken away in lines to leave just the weft. It then allows the body to become on a real visual level as a part of that layered look.
Tsumori Chisato gets a gold star for having worked with Issey Miyake. The color selection is like a color spastic disco. But damn it looks like a fun dress and the flow of the open ruffles on the front say "Dance baby Dance".
I just checked out her last collection ( 2007 ) which had a good nod at cocktail/flapper era. So for me this is a bit of let down. I should caution also that a possible side effect from wearing this dress for long periods is that if you drink too much champagne you could vomit rainbows like the characters from Digicarrot.
Have i mentioned i am a complete sucker for women in mens suits. Yeah i am so there. Deb in a tuxedo jacket hence made me sit up and take notice. Seriously nice suit from the looks of it and well i would wear those pants. I like the dress/ pants combo on this one. I am not sure how they would sit though as the materials seems to both be satiny fabrics that could ride all over the place. But really who cares in the end this outfit just totally rocks. It would over state the whole thing giving her a big white scarf but hey i could live with that.
So why is Scott the best dressed guy in this shoot. I want to wear all my suits with the cuff rolled back now, just as well i just bought some hot new cuff-links. Seriously though any guy that can wear a shoulder fascinator gets my instant respect. We bow down to you Scott.
Clare wears Peachoo + Krejberg top and popping the collar is just hilarious. I find the print to be a bit of a detractor on this. But all is forgiven because i seriously dig the frock coat cut of it. It makes me think she could get always wear it whilst riding horseback or something. The high belt works but i would hate to think what the fashion police would do to her if she took the top off and tried to do that with just the dress underneath.
Running a goth club how can i not be a fan of mesh tops. I would never have thought that a silver mesh top would work. Go figure. I have to say that the layering on this is spot on. I would have felt that the dressing would have been lacking going from the hard diagonals to the soft flow of the skirt underneath. White dress is simple, classic, and understated giving the whole piece a cool finish.
And well you know that all of that has only been padding to hide the fact that i have been dying to talk about the Westwood stuff. All i can say is holy shit that is a good ensemble :D
Now normally this color would leave me shrieking and crying on the floor in a foetal position. I think it has just enough baby pink in it to make me overcome that initial reaction.
As far as the accessories goes what else could you match with this other than more Westwood.
The dusky plum reds in the bikini top and scarf just really bring out a lot of warmth in this outfit.
The low inside leg and extended crotch line is really saved by the angles coming up around the knee. It ain't baggy it is structured.
A lot of thought has been put into matching the waist cincher with the pants. And buttons on the corset to hold the pants at the right height and let them move is a damn fine idea.
I would normally grumble about a corset of any sort having a zip. But functionality on this outfit kinda warrants it. I think it would take a little while for you to get the height right but hey why not.
Nice long side vent pockets that do not interrupt the natural lines are seriously cool and i am hoping they went with really subtle frog mouth back pockets or better yet opted for none.
Liked the extra pattern note of the tote bag to the scarf.
Rosemary goes daring. So is this whole outfit pretty much semi transparent. Deceptively simple and lots of visual interest with the skirt, especially with a sash wrap. Would be a very cool party dress for the more adventurous.
I say no to your sapphire blue. Clare wears a Klein blue dress cos it hurts my eyes. Seriously nice use of color versus material. I can imagine you would just float through the crowd seeing this and if this the cardi has a ripple cut edge to it rather than just a straight line cut then that is just so cool ( could not tell on the photo but it looked like it).
I am thinking i might have to acquire some of those Ann Demeulemeester boots.
I Heart Dom! He is the coolest boy face ever.
I love how you can see the reflection of your super cool photography pose in the first pic. Awesome pics!!
August is the new November.
I love this site!!
Completely understand what your stance in this matter. Although I would disagree on some of the finer details, I think you did an awesome job explaining it. Sure beats having to research it on my own. Thanks
I love this site!!
This site is great!!
I don't know about that. I'm not sure I agree with your ideas. I'll just agree to disagree. Thanks...for the post.

I believe cufflinks are a new fad in mens fashion. There's really no other accessory a man can wear that can bring so much to his looks without subtracting from his class and elegance. Jewellery, wild clothing styles, and other flashy trends are very good, but none of them have the class that cufflinks provide. Most men just don't notice how much it can enhance their appearance.
