The New Orange

Soon we will all be asking is black the new burnt orange? Sorry to sound American but, like, seriously! SV scrutinized every single collection from the London, New York, Paris and Milan shows to bring Perth peeps news on what's hot in our international world of fashion. Burnt orange featured in every single designer's collection at least once (bar a few - I'm talking maybe 3 or 4 out of 247 shows and yes I did the math). Even Ann Demeulemeester who usually mainly features monochromatic hues in her collections branched out and I can tell you citrus blossomed!
I always wonder how designers, working in their own bubbles, some seasons, manage to all be feeling the same thing. You could say in-fact they are all secretly following each other around Premiere Vision wondering what would Miuccia Prada do? However I believe that style is an instinct. You just feel it and know that when you put a look together or try something on that it is just right..... well at least right for now :)
Betsey Johnston
2007 Face of Perth Fashion Festival Fabienne Vanderhaeghen wearing Chris Benz at New York Fashion Week.
Another Perth model who's hit the big time, Skye Stracke (Perth Fashion Festival Hot New Talent Winner 2007) wearing Ann Demeulemeester in Paris. PFF certainly knows how to pick 'em!
Sci-Fi Chic
Taking over from last year's -The Superhero - which included an exhibition of works at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Sci-Fi Chic is a natural progression.
I love themed Ready-to-wear (even though it is hard to incorporate into a practical ensemble), as it inspires so much more than fashion itself. If it is significant, which next season it is, you end up seeing the results of that particular genre all over the place before you even know it.
I am also interested to see who will rock this look and how it will be personalised to suit each savvy fashion player in months (or even seasons) to come.
Alexander McQueen's Blade Runner look
Balenciaga
Gareth Pugh
I saw singer and fashion victim Roisin Murphy of Moloko fame wearing a Gareth Pugh piece on The Face Hunter website the same afternoon he had showed in Paris. It was in very poor taste (her form not the garment) and she even had the same stripper shoes (big next season) on. It looked as though she had nothing to wear, so was 'lucky' enough to grab something off one of the model's backs (back-stage haha) immediately after the poor girl walked off the runway.
Hussein Chalayan
Alexander McQueen
Karl Lagerfeld
The Blue Suit
Many of the other trends and colour palettes used for Spring/Summer '09 were complementary to the key look of the season - The New Orange - such as contrasting blue which also featured prominently.
Although a suit may not be suit-able attire for Spring or Summer in our Australian climate, you can always style yourself on this look next winter and be way ahead of the pack.
Max Mara
D&G
Gucci
Check out the grey shoes, another contrast to the burnt orange look. Grey and burnt orange used together was also massive!! news for next season and I will highlight this in Part 2.

I think i just died and went to heaven ( Alexander McQueen ). How can this guy not spontaneously combust from coolness.
Karl Lagerfeld's over the dress ruffle thing looks kinda weak next to it.
All that was needed was Theirry Mugler to do an outfit or two and we could have had a three way face off.
Orange ..burnt orange with a whiff of sienna red.
I would normally associate those colors with that horrid two tone rayon that grans seem to wear before they get kidnapped and used as landfill.
However i think this season may have reclaimed it.
Betsey Johnston really knows how to do layers over contrasting fabrics. With a deconstructed bodice top and what i am boldly going to call a hobble rara dress. I look at her with cold disdain for not going with some kind of cute egl inspired little fingerless gloves Booo i say.
Balenciaga i instantly thought handbag. But i think i sat and drooled at this photo for a while. The muted tones work so damn well and whilst i come away with a mod impression from how the shoulders and the front has been cut. The trousers just blew me away. I am a huge fan of jodhpurs and these have defined motor bike themes to them as well. Which equals win in my book. And getting the waist to sit like that with the white ribbing would have been hell.
Hussein Chalayan. Who wha why did i not get a memo. This person rocks. Frankly i have not gone wtf since looking at stuff by Issey Miyake. I must find out more.
I can only hope there is some strange kinda bustle thing happening under that cloth or else the reason why the model looks like she is clenching i do not want to go into.
However great use of deformed/molded textures on the fabric.
And Gucci well i will always love Gucci. what can is say it just looks stylish. I am ignoring what looks like a cloth belt there. I can live in denial.
Puff puff okay i am done.
these designs never cease to amaze me.i love the detail in some of the outfits like the Karl Lagerfeld dress. The orange Ann Demeulemeester dress is great because it is different from the norm, and i can appreciate how much pain it would be to construct a garment like that! nevertheless it makes me feel like eating oranges haha! and that Hussein Chalayan dress..is that photoshoped? its amazing.it looks like her dress is made up of liquid!
another great snippet of style from perth and beyond.thanks style voyeur, i love it!!

I believe cufflinks are the next big thing in mens fashion. There is actually no other accessory a man can wear which can add so much to his appearance without subtracting from his class and style. Jewellery, outgoing clothing styles, and other eye catching trends are great, but not one of them have the class that cufflinks provide. Most men just don't realize how much it can enhance their appearance.
Have you had your? The only thing is I seem to be having problems getting to the RSS feed
